How a Great Lawn Can Improve the Value of Your House
One of the most welcoming sights for someone who is just coming home from their job after a long day at work is seeing the sight of your home, your family, and your beautiful landscaping. There’s something about it that just gives you comfort. Imagine having a barbecue in your back garden, or watching your children roll merrily across a well tended lawn. Not only does this give you a feeling of comfort and security, but a feeling of peace as well.
Having a healthy lawn and healthy landscaping can tell you a lot about a homeowner. In a lot of cases, it can tell you whether or not they take good care of their home. For a potential buyer, it is important to know that the home has been well taken care of. Just by looking at well manicured lawns and gardens will often tell you whether or not the home has been taken care of. This is why estate agents estimate that having a well maintained garden can increase a home’s value by as much as 10 to 15%. Not only that, but your home will probably sell much faster as well.
Maintaining a healthy lawn and garden is not that expensive to do. If your lawn is 2000 ft.², you can fertilize it three or four times per year for a total cost of about £20. Mowing your lawn yourself is easy to do and most lawns can be mowed in less than 30 minutes per week. Another good idea is for you to dig a border around your lawn. This will really help your lawn to look neat. Putting a nice border around your lawn also prevents your lawn from getting a lot of weeds. If you see any weeds, take care of them instantly just by pulling them out. This will save you from having to use pesticides and having a lot more weed problems in your lawn later on. If you don’t want to have to spend a lot of time gardening, consider getting some perennial flowers that will grow back every year such as marigolds, roses or even tulips. This way, your lawn will be complimented by the flowers every spring, and you won’t have to do that much work to maintain them.
The benefits that you will derive from having a healthy lawn far outweighs the costs of taking care of it. This year I am planning on redoing my garden. I’m planning on bringing in new soil and seeding all of the bare spots in my lawn. I am also planning on bringing in some rose bushes and maybe a couple of flowering trees for my backyard. I think that this will significantly increase the value of my home, plus I think it will also be fun to install. With a healthy lawn, my children will have a place to play. I am definitely going to aerate my back lawn with a lawn aerator this year because I haven’t done it since last autumn.
